It's discretionary with the Immigration officer who sees you. I know of people who have been going in and out of the country for a couple of years and never get asked any questions and others who have been asked what they're doing in Hk for so long. White Anglo-Saxons don't seem to have as many problems as, shall we say, ethnic minority groups or other South East Asian neighbours. To be eligible for permanent residency, you must have been ordinarily resident in HKG for a period of not less than 7 years. If you are on a "Tourist" visa, you will not be deemed to have been resident here. Invest 6.5 million in HK and you will get a 12-month Capital Investment Entrant Scheme Visa. At the end of 12 months, you have to apply for an extension.
